Midfielders serve as the glue to a strong soccer team, and MLS Fantasy is no different. It’s a position that can consistently deliver points through a combination of goals, assists and bonus points. Should you play it safe with a bonus-point magnet like Jonathan dos Santos? Or invest in midfielders who can also rack up goals and assists in bulk like Carles Gil and Maxi Moralez? These are the decisions that managers will be tasked with making in leading their squad to fantasy glory.

There’s a lot to be excited about with several teams bolstering their midfield in the offseason. Edison Flores, Rodolfo Pizarro and Lucas Zelarayan are just a few of the new toys we get to play with this season. If the newcomers are able to quickly adapt to their new environment, it would be no surprise to see them become regular fixtures in fantasy rosters over the course of the season.
Gil, last year's MLS Newcomer of the Year, accrued the most points (258) of any midfielder in 2019, but it was Nicolas Lodeiro who once again led all midfielders with 7.71 fantasy points per game. Both players are set up to continue to thrive with even more talent surrounding them this season, planting them high on the fantasy radar ahead of the 2020 season.
