Fantasy: Ranking the top 10 goalkeepers for 2020

Bill Hamid - D.C. United - organizing defense

MLS Fantasy players will face several important decisions ahead of the 2020 season, though none is bigger than who will be in their first team. While not often at the forefront of everyone’s mind when assembling their roster, a dependable goalkeeper can make a massive difference.

What should you look for?

Value. The pool of potential point-generating actions for a goalkeeper largely depends on clean sheets. This means that more affordable ‘keepers can often score as well or better than their high-priced counterparts. Also, with the transition to fixed budgets, it’ll be more important than ever to acquire players with the highest ceilings.

CCL Impact

Goalkeepers are the ironmen of soccer, so the five players with additional Concacaf Champions League games before the MLS regular season begins shouldn’t present a major rotation risk. The larger concern exists with other defensive players, since injuries and rotations could have a major impact on the overall cohesiveness of a defensive group. From there, breakdowns could be reflected in a goalkeeper’s fantasy score.
