If one thing was made clear this week in MLS, it is that the offseason is well underway.
MLS teams continued to wheel and deal over the past few days in an effort to bolster their rosters ahead of the 2018 campaign. Some moves were made official while others continued to simple be part of the rumor mill. Nevertheless, it was a busy week.
Here is a look at the 10 biggest transfer stories from the past few days:
10. TFC sign US U-17 star
Reigning MLS Cup champions Toronto FC are not resting on their laurels, as they went out and added one of the top young prospects in the league by signing Ayo Akinola to a Homegrown Player deal.
9. RSL re-sign Lennon
Brooks Lennon will be sticking around at Real Salt Lake for a while longer. RSL announced this week that they signed the 20-year-old forward on a permanent basis from Liverpool following his impressive loan season at Rio Tinto Stadium in 2017.
8. Veron move headlines Re-Entry Stage 2
The New York Red Bulls' loss became rivals D.C. United's gain. D.C. grabbed the headlines by plucking Gonzalo Veron in Stage 2 of the MLS Re-Enrty Draft, meaning the Red Bulls will now have to go up against the player they deemed worthy of a Designated Player deal back in 2015.
7. Orlando keep busy
Orlando City's front office sure kept busy this week. Not only did the Lions trade for RJ Allen from New York City FC and re-sign midfielder Dillon Powers, but they also added two-time NASL MVP Stefano Pinho and are looking to South America to possibly acquire Paraguayan attacking midfielder Josue Colman. Additionally, Orlando's star striker Cyle Larin is rumored to be drawing interest from Turkish side Besiktas.
6. Joining the Ticos crowd
One more Costa Rican just landed in MLS, and another might soon be on his way. D.C. United signed midfielder Ulises Segura after making a deal with NYCFC, and the Portland Timbers are supposedly on the verge of signing center back Julio Cascante.
5. Galaxy start backline rebuild
The LA Galaxy defense is getting a facelift, as the club signed Venezuelan defender Rolf Feltscher and traded for David Bingham's rights from the San Jose Earthquakes.
4. Chicago linked with two big-name players
Bastian Schweinsteiger's future with the Chicago Fire might still be up in the air, but other big-name players may be on the club's radar. Chicago is reportedly keen on moves for legendary Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas and Colombian international Juan Quintero.
3. Quakes land Swedish goal king
There is a new Designated Player in San Jose following the Earthquakes' capture of Allsvenskan co-top scorer Magnus Eriksson, who arrived from Djurgardens IF after scoring 14 goals in 2017.
2. Barco saga continues
If talented teenager Ezequiel Barco does not join Atlanta United, it will not be for a lack of trying – by Atlanta or the player. Barco reportedly asked his current club, Independiente, to accept the transfer offer that Atlanta United has made.
1. Shakeup at Red Bull?
The week's late-breaking news just might be the biggest, as it potentially portends a seismic change for the New York Red Bulls in 2018. They're reportedly still attempting to trade star playmaker Sacha Kljestan, with Minnesota United the latest side to join the mix for his services after LAFC were linked to the player last week. The Red Bulls are also said to closing in on a multi-million dollar deal for Argentine winger Alejandro Romero Gamarra.
