Vancouver Whitecaps goalkeeper Thomas Hasal capped off his amazing performance in his team's penalty kick defeat to Sporting Kansas City with a selection to the MLS Team of the Week presented by Audi. The 21-year-old Homegrown product provided one of the best stories of the tournament so far, coming into the tournament third on the depth chart before being thrust into emergency action, manning two straight clean sheets, making an array of saves against SKC and stuffing an attempt in the shootout.
Philadelphia Union Homegrown Mark McKenzie leads the way on the backline, earning his second straight selection after another standout shift in Philadelphia's 1-0 win over the New England Revolution, with teammate Kai Wagner also getting the nod. NYCFC had the most selections this week, as Alexander Callens, Maxi Moralez and Valentin Castellanos all made the cut after their trouncing of Toronto FC. LAFC also earned a pair of selections coming off their own blowout win over the Seattle Sounders, with forward Diego Rossi earning a spot after scoring two more goals and midfielder Eduard Atuesta also getting selected.
The players on the latest Team of the Week contributed six goals and a total of $6,000 which the Audi Goals Drive Progress program will contribute to MLS club academies, which helped produced the likes of McKenzie and Hasal.
