Martino skips handshake with Armas: "I like coaches with a low profile"

HARRISON, N.J.-- The New York Red Bulls'2-0 win over Atlanta United was not without drama, and that drama wasn't exclusive to the 90 minutes of play.

With the Red Bulls well on their way to victory into the closing seconds of stoppage time, RBNY head coach Chris Armas encouraged the crowd to get louder, celebrating the key result.

Miguel Almiron and Tata Martino didn't exactly seem pleased.

Almiron, who was stifled by the Red Bulls over a frustrating 90 minutes, immediately made for the tunnel with a scowl on his face. Armas was walking in the same direction to meet with Martino at midfield when Martino picked up his pace from a walk to a jog, quick to usher Almiron away before chatting with Armas.

Armas, seemingly unaware, reached his hand out. Martino disregarded it, gave a half-hearted pat on the back and both continued on their way.

After the game, Martino elaborated on the incident.

"I went to separate him from Miguel because I think they were arguing and I went to take Miguel out of it," Martino said. "I don't know what they were arguing about but I saw that they were starting to talk and I went to take Miguel out of it."

He added: "I like coaches with a low profile."

The Red Bulls' Twitter handle seemingly poked fun at the exchange hours after the match.

New York's win takes them within a point of Shield-leading Atlanta with three games left. If the two sides meet in the playoffs, you can add this storyline to the long list.
