LAFC eat humble pie on Twitter after losing NFL bet to Atlanta United

LAFC - Twitter avi after losing NFL bet with Atlanta United

After Atlanta United’s stunning 2017 debut season, many across MLS are watching LAFC closely to see if this year’s much-hyped expansion newcomers can meet or beat the Five Stripes’ head-turning achievements both on the field and in the stands.

The Californians had to catch an early L this weekend, however, as they came out second-best in a lighthearted wager with the Georgia club.

With their NFL counterparts the Los Angeles Rams and Atlanta Falcons facing off in a wild-card playoff game on Saturday, LAFC and Atlanta United made a casual bet via their respective Twitter accounts, with the loser sentenced to donning the others’ colors.

Predictably, smack talk ensued…

And when the Falcons, who share ownership and a home stadium with United, knocked off the host Rams in a 26-13 upset victory at the LA Memorial Coliseum – a stone’s throw from LAFC’s under-construction Banc of California Stadium – the Angelenos had to flash a new Twitter avatar (see image at top).

It’s extremely early in the year, but this little episode hints at the possibility of some quality banter between the expansion darlings of past and present.
