Vancouver Whitecaps transfer Kianz Froese to German side Fortuna Dusseldorf

The Vancouver Whitecaps announced on Wednesday that they have reached a deal to transfer Homegrown midfielder Kianz Froese to German second division club Fortuna Dusseldorf.

As part of the transfer, the Whitecaps will receive a match played bonus and a percentage of any future transfer fees.

"We thank Kianz for his contributions to the club and wish him all the best with Fortuna Düsseldorf," Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement released by the club. "This is a good opportunity for Kianz to continue his development both on and off the pitch. This move will also open a pathway for our young midfield players who are ready to compete for minutes."

The 20-year-old Froese joined the Whitecaps residency program in September 2011 and signed a first-team contract in September 2014. He made 15 regular season appearances in just over two years with the ‘Caps, starting twice and recording one goal. He also recorded an assist in each of his four Amway Canadian Championship appearances and scored one goal in five CONCACAF Champions League matches.

Born in Havana, Cuba but raised in Brunkild, Manitoba, Froese tallied four goals and one assists in 22 USL appearances for Whitecaps FC 2. He has two senior international appearances for Canada.
