VIDEO: "Muerte o Gloria" trailer, an old-school DC United supporters film | SIDELINE

D.C. United fans

Major League Soccer's popularity has seen a major uptick in recent years.

Expansion teams like the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers, the masterstroke rebranding of Sporting Kansas City and the sustained success of a fellow small-market team like Real Salt Lake have served as great examples of how connecting with your fans can be the tipping point for securing an immediate legacy.

Heading into the 2014 season, supporters culture finds itself at an all-time high as well, in terms of both quantity and quality. In recent years, this has undoubtedly caused countless new fans experiencing the league for the first time to become hooked.

But if not for some of the league's earliest, most devoted, unwavering fans — like D.C. United supporters group La Barra Brava, featured above — so many of those new recruits might have been unmoved to return if all they experienced was "just a soccer game."

But as every MLS supporter will attest, there is so much more to it.

Titled Muerte o Gloria, the above video is an upcoming film documenting "the rise of the American soccer fan," with what appears to be a heavy D.C. United slant.
