Jersey Week: Rapids make MLS history with new '13 jerseys

The Rapids will wear their pride on their sleeves in 2013. More precisely, on their shirts.

Colorado became the third MLS club to unveil their new 2013 primary and secondary jerseys on Monday as part of the first-ever MLS Jersey Week and the club made a statement with both kits: The primary is the first in MLS history to feature the names of each of the club's season-ticket holders, while the design of the alternate kit is inspired by the Colorado state flag.

Fans can preorder the new jerseys here.

"With our new alternate jerseys featuring the Colorado state flag, and our primary kits including the names of our season-ticket holders, we want to recognize our fans and our state for their passion and support over the last 18 years," said Rapids president Tim Hinchey in a club statement.

The Rapids had already previously unveiled their primary shirt, while Rapids captain Pablo Mastroeni did the honors for the new-look secondary jersey on a Monday afternoon local TV newscast (PHOTOS: see Pablo Mastroeni in the new away shirt here).

Colorado fans will be able to see the new garb donned by their favorite players during a Tuesday night public party at Lodo's Bar and Grill in downtown Denver (6 pm MT). A jersey caravan will also be making its way through the region during the day Tuesday.

The Rapids primary jersey maintains the club's unique burgundy color, while also featuring a darker shade of hoops which consist of the names of the season-ticket holders. The white sleeves and the Colorado flag on the lower left corner are also new to the shirt.

"The great thing about the Colorado primary jersey is that it has all 1,451 season ticket-holder names in the jersey," said Mike Walker, adidas product manager. "Those hoops are made up of all of those names."

However, Colorado will be opening up the MLS season on Saturday at FC Dallas wearing their brand new secondary kits (8:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE) that show off the colors of the Colorado state flag (blue, red and yellow) as well as the flag's big "C" with a bar that are embossed on the front.

"The secondary jersey is a big departure for Colorado but it really talks about what they are as a team," Walker said. "It's state pride. It's all about Colorado. ... The jersey screams Colorado."
