Julian Green still wants a future with US national team, says he has improved since 2014

Julian Green - national team - warm-up top

Julian Green has faded out of the US national team picture nearly as quickly as he appeared more than a half-decade ago, as a teenager playing for Bayern Munich's youth setup.

But in a story Wednesday from Yahoo's Doug McIntyre, Green says he believes he's a better player than when he scored the final goal (shown below) for the US at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, despite moving on from Bayern to less glamorous digs in the 2. Bundesliga, where he has established himself as a regular for Greuther Furth.

“I’m a better player than I was six years ago in the World Cup,” the now 25-year-old told Yahoo in a phone interview. “I hope I get my chance to show the coach what I can do, that I can help the team. That’s my biggest goal.”

Green has 15 caps for the US, the most recent coming in a 3-0 friendly loss to England at Wembley Stadium in November of 2018 under interim boss Dave Sarachan.
