United States U-17 national team kick off new cycle with 14 MLS academy-based players

In their first training camp of the cycle culminating with the 2021 U-17 World Cup, the United States have called a squad for a UEFA Development Tournament in England.

The U-17s will face Spain, England and Demark from February 19-24. FC Cincinnati's director of player development Larry Sunderland will coach the squad.

Fourteen of the 20 players are part of an MLS academy, headlined by Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina. He signed a Homegrown contract last year. Inter Miami, despite its young academy, have two players on the squad. Real Salt Lake and Atlanta United are sending two players each as well.

All players are age-eligible for the World Cup, having been born on or after Jan. 1, 2004.
