TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Re-signing

The Montreal Impact announced on Friday they have re-signed goalkeeper Clement Diop to a new one-year contract, with an option for the 2021 season.

The 26-year-old has spent the last two seasons in Montreal, serving as the backup to longtime starter Evan Bush. Coupled with two seasons spent at the LA Galaxy, Diop has played 19 MLS regular season games across the last four years, with the bulk of those coming in 2017 with the Galaxy, where he made 15 appearances. Diop did play a key role in Montreal winning the 2019 Canadian Championship, making four appearances in that competition.

“We are glad that Clement extends his contract with us and we are happy to count on him for the next season,” said the Impact sporting director Olivier Renard in a team statement. “He’s a goalkeeper that showed his skills at the end of last season in cup and regular season games.”

The French-born Senegalese international holds an American green card and will not count as an international player on the roster.

The Impact, under new head coach Thierry Henry, will open the 2020 MLS regular season on February 29 against the New England Revolution.
