The Montreal Impact have re-signed defender Rod Fanni through the end of the 2019 season, the club announced Monday. Fanni spent 2018 with the Impact though his contract option was not picked up following the season and has been without a club since.

Fanni, 37, started 26 games for the Impact in 2018.

Before coming to MLS last season, he played 362 games in Ligue 1, including 330 starts, and 29,895 minutes through a 15-year career in the French first division, between 2002 and 2018, appearing successively for RC Lens, OGC Nice, Stade Rennais and Olympique de Marseille. He has five caps with the French national team.

Montreal recently transferred center back Zakaria Diallo to France and have conceded 52 goals, third-worst in MLS.
