In his first season as a full-time MLS starter, Maxime Crepeau has been one of the best goalkeepers in MLS. And now Vancouver Whitecaps FC are rewarding him for it.

The club announced on Tuesday that the Canadian international has signed a new contract through 2022, with an option for 2023.

"Since the first day that Max arrived in Vancouver, he has been very focused on improving all aspects of his game and he has earned this opportunity,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Marc Dos Santos in a statement. "He has come up big for us, and he continues to show the commitment that you need to succeed in MLS. This season has allowed us to evaluate how we want to play and identify what we can build on, and this move is one of many that we felt was important to continue reshaping our club.”

The 25-year-old has started 18 matches for the 'Caps in 2019 after only making three appearances over six previous MLS seasons with the Montreal Impact. He has conceded four goals less than he would have been expected to on average, making him the eighth-best goalkeeper in MLS by that statistic. Crepeau was brought into Vancouver after an impressive season on loan with the Ottawa Fury, where he was named the USL Goalkeeper of the Year.

“I’m proud to be part of the club’s vision, and I'll give my best to play at the highest standard and bring the logo, the badge, to a place it hasn’t been before,” said Crepeau. “My wife and I have fallen in love with Vancouver. I’ve made a connection with the fans in this city and it’s a special opportunity to be playing for them for years to come.”

Crepeau has registered two caps with the Canadian men's national team and was a member of their last two Concacaf Gold Cup teams.
