The New England Revolution have appointed Dave van den Bergh as an assistant coach, the club announced Tuesday.
Van den Bergh, 43, has spent the last nine years coaching in the US youth national team ranks. He was most recently an assistant on Tab Ramos' U-20 staff.
"Dave's blend of experience playing in MLS and Europe, and coaching throughout the United States Youth National Team system, will serve him exceptionally well as an assistant coach here in New England," head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena said in a statement. "We have a relationship dating back more than a decade, and I'm looking forward to seeing Dave bring his acumen, work ethic, and passion for the game to our staff."
Van den Bergh enjoyed a long playing career, in which he started with Ajax, then featured for Rayo Vallecano in Spain and Utrecht in the Netherlands before a few years in MLS. He signed with Sporting Kansas City in 2006 before spending two seasons with the New York Red Bulls and finishing his career with FC Dallas.
Arena coached van der Bergh on the Red Bulls in 2007.
