MLS Disciplinary Committee rules on Portland-LAFC, fines Josef Martinez

The MLS Disciplinary Committee has issued five fines and warnings to two teams following Week 14 of the 2019 MLS regular season.


Blanco, Mabiala hands to face/head/neck

The Disciplinary Committee has found Portland Timbers midfielder Sebastian Blanco and defender Larrys Mabiala in violation of the league's policy regarding hands to the face, head or neck of an opponent. Blanco and Mabiala have each been fined an undisclosed amount for their actions, which took place in second-half stoppage time of Portland's game against LAFC on June 1.


Portland-LAFC mass confronation

The Disciplinary Committee has found the Portland Timbers and LAFC in violation of the league's mass confrontation policy during second-half stoppage time of the teams' match on June 1. Both clubs will be issued a warning for their first violation.


Additionally, Portland head coach Giovanni Savarese and LAFC assistant coach Ante Razov have each been fined an undisclosed amount for violating the bench behavior policy.


Josef Martinez simulation/embellishment

The Disciplinary Committee has found Atlanta United forward Josef Martinez guilty of simulation/embellishment for his actions in the 68th minute of Atlanta's game against the Chicago Fire on June 1. As a result, Martinez has been fined an undisclosed amount.
