Sporting Kansas City saw two of their regulars called up by the Hungarian national team on Monday, as striker Krisztian Nemeth (pictured above) and center back Botond Barath were named to the squad that will face Slovakia and Croatia in UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying action this month.
Barath, 26, joined SKC via a free transfer Budapest Honved over the winter and has appeared in both of their league games thus far this year, starting in the 2-0 win over Philadelphia on Sunday as well as their 2-1 first-leg loss to Panamanian upstarts CA Independiente in the Concacaf Champions League quarterfinals.
Nemeth, 30, is manager Peter Vermes’ first-choice No. 9 at present and has scored three goals in Kansas City’s first five games across both CCL and MLS play.
The Magyars visit Slovakia on Thursday, March 21 before hosting Croatia on March 24 as they seek a strong start in UEFA Group E.
