Orlando City update: Dom Dwyer out 1-2 weeks with quad injury

Orlando City SC's star striker Dom Dwyer has sustained a preseason injury setback, as a minor quadriceps issue will limit his activity for the next week or two.

That was one of several tidbits of information shared by Lions head coach James O’Connor in a media availability on Tuesday, the day before Orlando’s second preseason match, a tussle with reigning USL champions and former OCSC affiliate club Louisville City.

“The only one [injured] is Dom, he’s got some kind of niggle there, so I'd say probably 7-14 days he's probably going to be out,” said O’Conner when asked about the health of his squad after a physically demanding two-week camp at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. “Other than that, everyone is pretty much OK. I'd a lot of aches and pains, but I'd expect that.

“He's got something in his quad,” O’Connor added of Dwyer, Orlando’s leading scorer last year with 13 goals. “We're not overly concerned with that.”

The Lions lack an established starter at the goalkeeping position, and have brought in veteran MLS goalkeeper Brian Rowe – formerly of the Vancouver Whitecaps and LA Galaxy – on a trial basis.

“He's done really well. He's done great,” said O’Connor. “He brings good experience to the group; I think he's someone that we've been pleased with.”
