FC Dallas Homegrown Chris Richards hopes to extend stay at Bayern Munich

Chris Richards has yet to play a competitive game for FC Dallas' first team, but the in-demand defender is turning heads at one of the world's biggest teams.

Richards, 18, is on a six-month loan at Dallas' partner, German powerhouse Bayern Munich, and the youngster is impressed by the experience so far, even if he did have to adjust to training alongside superstars.

“It’s a crazy feeling,” Richards told Grant Wahl in a recent SI.com profile. “You grow up watching these players in Champions League, and now I’m training with them. It’s something that’s even hard to put it into words. You just want to stargaze when you’re out there on the field, but you actually have to play with them and hold your own. It was a weird transition at first, but it’s something I could only dream about.”

Richards hasn't played for Bayern's first team in a competitive game yet, but has been playing regularly for Bayern's U-19 side, both in regular league play and in European youth competition, and he's trained intermittently with the first team. He also revealed that he has received plenty of mentorship from first-team regular David Alaba.

With his loan expiring in December, does Richards want to continue at Bayern? He says he does, but he's willing to return to Dallas if that's in the cards.
