Stuck in a poor run of form, New York City FC head coach Dome Torrent knows the team needs to turn improved performances into three points as soon as possible.
Just one win away from clinching playoff qualification, the club has slipped from the Supporters' Shield race to being within the realm of possibility of going on the round for a knockout round playoff game. It's unlikely, but with Columbus Crew SC and Philadelphia Union gaining ground behind City, it's possible.
NYCFC have another chance to qualify for the playoffs on Wednesday against the Chicago Fire (7:30 pm ET | TV & streaming info) at Yankee Stadium.
"We need to win the game, we know," Torrent said ahead of Wednesday's match. "We need to win against Chicago because it's very important, at the end when you play well you need to win. The most important thing is the result."
Torrent's side have just one win in their last nine games, though have earned back-to-back draws, an encouraging sign for the manager.
"I'm happy for the performance in the last few games because we were able to keep the ball, to control the games," Torrent said. "But we need to win, especially for our fans in Yankee Stadium."
Jo Inge Berget returned from injury on Saturday, starting and helping contribute to City's lone goal. Ismael Tajouri-Shradi came off the bench after missing their last two games through international duty and Jesus Medina will return soon. All three players will be vital for NYCFC's postseason run.
First, they need to pick up form to get some momentum. Can they hit their stride again Wednesday?
