Schweinsteiger dishes on 2014 World Cup win, his immediate reactions

Bastian Schweinsteiger - Brad Davis - 2014 World Cup

"I was very tired in the moment, I remember."

Chicago Fire midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger is one of two currently active MLS players to have won the World Cup (the other being NYCFC'sDavid Villa). So he knows what the emotion is like to lift the most coveted trophy in soccer.

With the 2018 World Cup underway this week, World Cup fever is alive and well. In a video interview on the Fire's website, Schweinsteiger discusses his history in the World Cup, the magic formula to win it all, and what it felt like immediately after clinching Germany's World Cup win in Brazil in 2014.

"You put all your energy in this, of course. I was very tired when we came back to the hotel, for example. I remember I was lying in the bed, and I couldn't believe that we had won the World Cup, but the problem was, they were all celebrating in the lobby in our hotel. But I could somehow not move, I was just tired. Even when you celebrate, you need also a little bit of energy," Schweinsteiger said, laughing.
