Serie A veteran Mohamed Kallon coaching Houston Dynamo youth at GA Cup

FRISCO, Tex. -- There are future stars at the 2018 Generation adidas Cup, but one player in Frisco has already finished his playing career.

Former Serie A veteran Mohamed Kallon is now an assistant coach with the Houston Dynamo Academy and is with the Dynamo Under-17's at this year's tournament. Kallon had a prestigious playing career, playing in Serie A with multiple teams including Inter Milan and spending two-and-a-half seasons with Monaco in Ligue 1.

Kallon returned to Houston, the area which his wife hails from, four years ago and joined the Dynamo staff in 2015 and he holds a UEFA "A" license and a USSF "B" license. His connection with the Dynamo comes through a familiar name to MLS fans.

"[Dynamo U-17 head coach] Tom [Harris] was working with our national team and Kei Kamara was playing with the Dynamo so whenever I came in for the holidays I trained with the Dynamo," Kallon said.

Kallon and Kamara both hail from Sierra Leone with Kallon scoring 14 goals in 35 matches while playing for Sierra Leone. Kallon, who scored 39 goals in Serie A with Cagliari, Reggiana, Vicenza and Inter Milan, spoke with Kamara before his match against the LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

The 38-year-old coached on Sunday as the Dynamo were able to prevail past Real Salt Lake in a penalty-kick shootout to earn their first two points of the tournament (teams earn two points when winning a PK shootout). They will finish up the group stage on Monday at 1 pm ET against Orlando City SC.
