The New York Red Bulls look set to land a player from sister club Red Bull Salzburg, with various Austrian outlets reporting Thursday that German central midfielder Marc Rzatkowski will soon join New York on loan.
Rzatkowski, 27, has played sparingly since moving from German second-division side St. Pauli to Salzburg, appearing in 12 Austrian Bundesliga games since joining the club in June 2016. While he’s struggled with Salzburg, he did have success with St. Pauli, scoring 12 goals in 85 appearances and 77 starts in three seasons with the 2. Bundesliga club.
New York have acquired players on loan from Red Bull Salzburg in the past. Forward Fredrik Gulbrandsen joined New York on loan from Salzburg last March, but scored no goals in 12 appearances before being released in June.
