Reports: Portland Timbers in on Paraguayan youth international Paredes

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report

The Portland Timbers could be the latest MLS team to target a Paraguayan youth international.

At least two reports have linked the Timbers to 19-year-old midfielder Cristhian Paredes, who is currently under contract with Mexican giants Club America.

If true, Paredes could be following fellow Paraguayan Jesus Medina, who has been connected repeatedly with New York City FC on a loan from sister club Manchester City.

Of course, no Paraguayan has made a bigger MLS impact than Miguel Almiron, who at age 23 had nine goals and 14 assists with Atlanta United in 2017 league play after signing a Young Designated Player contract.

Paredes made his professional debut with Sol de America in Paraguay's top flight, scoring four times in 30 starts during the 2016 campaign before moving to Club America.

He has yet to make a Liga MX appearance for Las Aguilas, though he has scored a goal in two Copa MX appearances.

Internationally, Paredes has been a regular contributor at the U-17 and U-20 levels, making 11 starts at the continental championship level and two more at the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile.
