FC Dallas 0, San Jose Earthquakes 1 | 2017 MLS Match Recap

The San Jose Earthquakes came into Frisco Saturday night and handed FC Dallas something no other MLS side has been able to in 2017 -- a loss.

Jahmir Hyka's goal came mere moments after he had a goal called back on a tight offside call, as the Quakes started to find momentum in a game that had lacked quality in the final third. Hyka chipped Matt Hedges then hit the volley to grab his third goal of the season.

Three Things

  1. WELL'S GONE DRY: The early MLS season hasn't had a whole lot of consistency, but FCD and their undefeated streak had them marked as one of the top teams. With their games in hand, one loss shouldn't come as a large mark against them - but the way in which they went down should cause some concern. Maximiliano Urruti was almost completely shut down, managing only one well-off shot attempt in the final minutes of the game. As a team they didn't get a shot attempt on goal until the 75th minute.
  2. ROAD WARRIORS: Road points are notoriously hard to come by in MLS and San Jose have been no exception, with just their second win in their last 12 attempts. More importantly, the win begins to turn around a slow down for the Quakes, who won their first two then went 2-4-4 after that. That's good momentum to ride into their first meeting with arch-rival LA Galaxy next weekend.
  3. HYKA LOVES DALLAS: With two of his three goals this season coming against FCD in the waning seconds, scoring great last-minute goals against FCD is becoming a bit of a habit for Hyka. In that game Hyka's goal on the last kick before the final whistle stole a point for the Quakes.
