Chicago Fire general manager Nelson Rodriguez promised some new center-back signings at last weekā€™s MLS SuperDraft, and he looks to be making good on his word.

One day after a report revealed that the Fire are in the running to sign 24-year-old Polish international center back Marcin Kaminksi, it emerged on Tuesday that the club has apparently come to an agreement with a fellow central defender in Portuguese veteran Joao Meira.

Meira, 28, told Portuguese outlet Record last week that heā€™s signed a two-year deal with the Fire.

He spent the last three seasons with Belenenses, helping the club earn promotion to Portugalā€™s top flight in 2013 before appearing in 45 Primeira Liga games over the last two seasons. He was dropped from Belenensesā€™ roster ahead of the current season.

Prior to joining Belenenses, Meira competed in Portugalā€™s third and fourth divisions until 2010, when he signed with second division side Atletico Clube de Portugal.
