GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Edgar Castillo has resurrected his career since joining Club Tijuana in 2011, but could be on the move this summer.
VAVEL Mexico is reporting that Castillo and other regular first-team starters Cristian Pellerano, Fidel Martínez and Darío Benedetto could be available for transfer as coach César Farías approaches his first full transfer window since taking over Xolos.
Castillo missed out on the US national team’s 30-man World Cup squad earlier this week, despite having featured regularly on rosters under coach Jurgen Klinsmann.
MLSsoccer.com reported that Castillo had been the subject of interest from one the Liga MX’s most successful clubs in recent times, as well as a team from outside North America last December.
If the Las Cruces, N.M., native is to leave Tijuana, it would open the door to more minutes for Texan Greg Garza, who was challenging Castillo for the team’s left-back spot throughout the Clausura.
The Liga MX draft is scheduled to take place on June 3. After that date, Mexico-based players can’t be transferred to another Liga MX team.
