He's still waiting for his first cap with the United States national team, but Sporting Kansas City's Seth Sinovic had nothing but good things to say about his first January camp.
“It was high-paced, intense, with everybody trying to prove something,” the left back told MLSsoccer.com by phone on Tuesday, after rejoining Sporting at their training camp in Tucson, Ariz. “Definitely a great experience, and I was excited to be a part of it.”
Sinovic was one of five players from last year's MLS Cup-winning side to be called into camp, but coach Jurgen Klinsmann released him and out-of-contract right back Chance Myers ahead of Saturday's friendly against South Korea in Carson, Calif (5 pm ET, ESPN2/UniMas).
“He didn't say anything specific, relative to other players,” Sinovic said. “He was really positive. He was happy I had the opportunity to come in. They were happy with what they saw, but there were a few things here and there that I can improve on. That's what I'm going to do.”
It's a short list.
“They liked how I get up and down the field and bring a lot of energy to the game,” he said. “The speed of play, a little bit, and the final pass, maybe I could have been a little bit sharper. I think those are the two major areas.”
Still, Sinovic said he's optimistic about his chances of earning more call-ups – especially if Sporting continue their winning ways.
“I think it's one of those things where, having been in there, they're going to be paying a little more attention to me as far as our club games go,” he said. “Every game we have is an opportunity to show what I'm capable of. So if we have a good year again this year, I'll hopefully have an opportunity to go to another camp.”
