Twenty-four hours.
That's how long US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann will have after the final Group C match against Costa Rica to determine whether or not to make use of any of the four roster wildcards at his disposal.
In a new rule adopted by CONCACAF for the 2013 edition of the Gold Cup, teams that advance to the quarterfinals can make up to four changes to their 23-man tournament squads by replacing current players with names from the preliminary 35-man player pool submitted in June.
But teams have a brief window to make the switches: specifically 24 hours after the conclusion of the group phase, which wraps up on Tuesday night in Hartford, Conn.
Klinsmann has likely already waded through his options and has negotiated with MLS clubs for any players he's hoping to call on: He could opt to bring in his new starting central defender pairing of Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy) and Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City) to gain valuable experience against tougher opposition in the Gold Cup knockout rounds.
Then again, if he's looking for attacking help, Graham Zusi (Sporting KC) could make for an intriguing selection, as would forwards Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders) and Alan Gordon (San Jose Earthquakes) could be options.
Less likely will be call-ups to the injured Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo) and Chivas USA's Carlos Bocanegra, who is yet to make an appearance for the Goats since signing on with them.
