AMSTERDAM – Young 1860 Munich attacker Bobby Wood signed his first professional contract over the weekend, extending his stay with the Lions by three years.
The 20-year-old Hawaii native's deal was set to expire at season's end. For much of 2012, Wood was out of action, recovering from knee surgery, but five solid league showings since his return late last month convinced the club to tie him down just before he would have become available to pre-deal shoppers in January.
"He prolonged his contract until 2016," 1860 press officer Lil Zercher told MLSsoccer.com. "Also, it's his first contract as a registered player. He's done well [since his return from injury]."
In all, Wood has scored one goal in 14 appearances since joining 1860 from California's Irvine Strikers. During that time, he's also hit four times in six games for the US Under-20 national team.
