American Exports: Howard's Everton cruise; Cameron, Guzan fall

Tim Howard, Everton

AMSTERDAM — It was another busy Saturday for Americans playing in Europe, with Everton backstop Tim Howard notching four fine saves in a 3-0 victory at Swansea City. The US No. 1 was at his best near halftime to deny Ki Sung-Yueng, helping the Toffees tentatively climb into second place.

Elsewhere in the EPL, Geoff Cameron pitched in a decent shift at right back as Stoke City side fell 1-0 at table toppers Chelsea. An Ashley Cole strike five minutes from time decided matters, ending the Potters streak of four draws in a row to start the season and also keeping the Potters winless in 12 league matches dating back to last season.

Brad Guzan made three saves and defender Eric Lichaj saw yellow as Aston Villa fell apart late for a 4-1 loss at Southampton. The netminder was responsible for Rickie Lambert's stoppage-time capper from the spot, having brought down Emmanuel Mayuka in the box.

Turning to the Bundesliga, Jermaine Jones worked 78 minutes in Schalke's 2-0 defeat away to league leaders Bayern Munich. The hosts hit twice inside three minutes near the hour to deal the Miners their first loss of the season.

North of the border in Denmark's Superliga, Michael Parkhurst went 82 minutes in a 1-1 home draw with Randers FC. Charlie Davies was an unused sub for the visitors, who halted a three-game losing slide.

In Belgium, Sacha Kljestan made a late cameo as Anderlecht posted a 3-2 win at Zulte-Waregem. The win pulled the Mauves to within a point of the top.

In Spanish second flight action, Carlos Bocanegra made a sterling debut in defense as Racing Santander won 1-0 at Mirandes. The victory lifted Los Verdiblancos to break-even after six matches.
