World Cup legend Zinedine Zidane predicts Steven Gerrard will win trophies in MLS

In the 17 illustrious years Steven Gerrard has played for Premier League club Liverpool FC, he has never won the league championship. This is remarkable to Zinedine Zidane, the retired French World Cup winner who starred for Real Madrid, Juventus, and others.

But Zizou thinks that Gerrard's title-less streak could end when the England international transfers to an MLS club. The LA Galaxy are reportedly frontrunners for his signature.

“It is incredible he has never won a league title but he has had success with Liverpool," Zidane said, according to The Liverpool Echo. "The years of him winning trophies are not behind him. I am sure he will be very successful in the MLS.”

Zidane, who was named FIFA World Player of the Year a record three times, led Real Madrid to the 2002 Champions League title and 2003 La Liga championship as part of the famous Galacticos side that also included Luis Figo, Ronaldo, and David Beckham.

And if Zidane had had his way, Gerrard would have been there, too.

“I have said in the past that at his peak, [Gerrard] was the best in the world," Zidane said. “I think it was the summer of 2004. I was having a conversation with (the club president), and I told him I wanted him to partner me in midfield for Madrid. I know the club tried twice, but he wouldn’t leave Liverpool.”

But now, it appears the Galaxy just might accomplish what Real Madrid and the great Zinedine Zidane were unable to do.
