Preliminary Roster & Roster Changes


The following players participated in the tournament group stage:


  • Goalkeepers: Brad Guzan (Atlanta United), Sean Johnson (New York City FC)

  • Midfielders: Kelyn Rowe (New England Revolution), Alejandro Bedoya (Philadelphia Union), Cristian Roldan (Seattle Sounders)

  • Forwards: Dom Dwyer (Sporting Kansas City)


The following players made the preliminary roster but were not called in during the tournament:


  • Goalkeepers: Joe Bendik (Orlando City),
  • Defenders: Matt Polster (Chicago Fire), Jonathan Spector (Orlando City), Steve Birnbaum (D.C. United), Greg Garza (Atlanta United), 
  • Midfielders: Tommy McNamara (NYCFC), Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund), Wil Trapp (Columbus Crew SC)
  • Forwards: CJ Sapong (Philadelphia Union), Chris Wondolowski (San Jose Earthquakes)


As in past years, teams that qualify for the quarterfinals of the Gold Cup were allowed to change their 23-player roster following the group stage by replacing up to six players with players from their 40-man preliminary roster.


Injury Replacement: On July 5, the US national team announced that Philadelphia Union winger Chris Pontius would replace KAA Gent's Kenny Saief, who suffered a groin injury in a friendly against Ghana.


** Knockout phase roster change: Notes players who were added on July 16, when the US national team announced it had made the maximum of six allowed roster changes after reaching the quarterfinals, per tournament regulations.
