Could Sporting Kansas City be looking for an experienced striker to bolster their scoring for 2018?

That's the word from Mexican outlet El Universal, which reported on Wednesday that Sporting are looking at a significant bid, said to be $4 million, for Argentine striker Mauro Boselli, who currently plays for Liga MX side Leon.

Boselli, 32, has extensive experience playing both in the Americas and in Europe. Starting with hometown club Boca Juniors and later for Estudiantes, also in Argentina, the forward has also played in Spain for Malaga's reserve team, in the Premier League with Wigan Athletic, and in Italy for Serie A sides Genoa and Palermo.

The most stable and productive stint of his career has been with Leon, where he joined in 2013, won back-to-back league titles and has won three league scoring titles, including this season. All told, he's scored over 100 goals in all competitions with the Mexican side. Boselli also has a few caps for Argentina.

A traditional central striker, Boselli combines size and skill, often playing as a "poacher" but occasionally capable of more skillful tallies, too.

Sporting struggled at times to score regularly in 2017, with Gerso being the top scorer on the season with eight goals in MLS regular season play. Head coach Peter Vermes identified forward as a position Sporting would be willing to spend big at in comments following the team's Knockout Round elimination from the playoffs.
