New York Red Bulls cancel contract with Brazilian center back Digao

New York signed center back Digao

Since his arrival last fall, Brazilian defender Digão struggled to make an impact with the New York Red Bulls. Now, he'll never have the chance.

On Friday morning, the club announced that they have canceled his contract, by mutual agreement with the player.

“We have spoken with Digão over the past couple of weeks and believe that this is the best resolution for all parties involved,” Red Bulls sporting director Andy Roxburgh said in a statement. “We want to wish Digão the best of luck in the next stage of his career.”

Digão, the younger brother of Brazilian superstar Kaká, joined the Red Bulls last September and played only once for the club, a substitute appearance during the 2012 MLS Cup playoffs.
