Gold Cup: Honduras call up Houston Dynamo's Luis Garrido to replace injured Ever Alvarado

Honduras coach Jorge Luis Pinto has called in Houston Dynamo midfielder Luis Garrido to replace injured defender Ever Alvarado, as Los Catrachos prepare to begin their 2015 Gold Cup campaign against the US national team at Toyota Stadium in Frisco, Texas on Tuesday night (9:30 pm ET; Fox Sports 1, UniMas, UDN).

The call comes several days after both Garrido and his club were left surprised by his exclusion from Pinto's final roster, in light of the hard-charging midfielder's central role in the Honduras setup of late.

"I take the call with great humility and commitment, we know what it means. Hopefully everything goes well and we can do great things in the tournament," Garrido told La Prensa. "I take it seriously because I know what it means to be in the national team. Now I'm psyched to join and do my best."

Garrido has made 26 appearances for his country, including two at last summer's World Cup in Brazil.

After their opening Group A showdown with the Gold Cup's host nation, Los Catrachos move on to Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts for a meeting with Panama on Friday, and round out their group-stage slate against Haiti on July 13 at Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kansas.
