It's been a while since Freddy Adu has been in the public light, and that's just fine with him. But he doesn't think he's done playing soccer.
After playing for 14 different teams between making his professional debut as a 14-year-old with D.C. United in 2004 and his most recent side, the USL Championship's Las Vegas Lights last year, Adu has been without a team.
ESPN's Bruce Schoenfield caught up with the former phenom and wrote a wonderful feature on Adu, who is currently coaching with a youth club in the suburbs of Baltimore, isn't retired yet.
"I'm still plenty young," Adu said. "I'm not ready to give it up. Things haven't gone the way that I would have wanted them to, obviously. But I love the sport too much to say I'm ready to give it up."
Adu, who just turned 30, wants to remain in America.
"I'd like to stay in the States," Adu said. "I've been to some obscure places in my career. I'm not sure if I want to keep doing that. I'd like to play, but I'm hoping that it's here."
