MLS veterans Edson Buddle and Marvell Wynne are on the hunt for a new club after the Colorado Rapids announced Tuesday that they have declined to pick up the option on each player’s contract.
Buddle, 33, became just the eighth player in MLS history to score 100 regular-season goals in August, but he scored just seven goals over 42 appearances after he joined the Rapids ahead of the 2013 season. He’s played for five teams in his 13-year MLS career.
Wynne, 28, spent the past five seasons with the Rapids and was one of just three players left on the roster from the team’s MLS Cup title in 2010. He appeared in 28 games each of the past three seasons for the club, mixing his time between right back and center back.
The Rapids declined the option on a total of 10 players, including veteran midfielder Nick LaBrocca, defender Gale Agbossoumonde and striker Danny Mwanga, who was the first overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft.
Rapids technical director Paul Bravo, however, stressed there is a possibility that some whose options are not being picked up may be back for training in the spring.
“This is an announcement we have to make prior to the upcoming November 26 deadline for notifying our players,” Bravo said in a statement. “Some of these players may be back with us by the time we begin training in January as many things could change between now and then.”
