Goalkeeper led competition with 32 saves along with two shutouts
NEW YORK
(Wednesday, August 12, 2020)
– Major League Soccer today announced the Philadelphia Union’s Andre Blake has been named winner of the MLS is Back Tournament Golden Glove presented by Allstate.
Blake led all goalkeepers in the MLS is Back Tournament with 32 saves, far and away the most in the competition, producing an 86.5 save percentage, also best among the league’s ‘keepers. Blake was credited with four goalkeeper wins in all in backstopping the Union to a place in the MLS is Back Tournament Semifinals.
Blake opened the MLS is Back Tournament with a 7-save shutout of New York City FC, one of two shutouts he recorded in the event, also tied for the competition lead. Blake also made five saves in a 1-0 shutout of the New England Revolution in the Round-of-16 of the Knockout Stage presented by Audi.

Of Blake’s 32 saves, 19 of them came on shots from inside the penalty area. Included in that total was a remarkable save on NYCFC’s Héber in the 87th minute of the tournament-opening match on July 9, one which preserved the Union’s 1-0 victory and has been nominated for the MLS is Back Save of the Tournament presented by Allstate.
Blake in 2016 was named the MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, and on two other occasions has been a finalist for the end-of-season league honor in addition to being a two-time MLS All-Star. The captain of the Jamaica National Team, Blake was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft out of the Univ. of Connecticut, the first goalkeeper ever to be taken with the first overall selection in the history of the event.
