Former NYCFC coach Dome Torrent lands at Brazilian powerhouse Flamengo

Dome Torrent - New York City FC - Close up

Former New York City FC head coach Dome Torrent is the new coach at Flamengo, the Brazilian club announced on Friday.

Torrent was linked with no shortage of vacant head coaching positions, including a few in Major League Soccer after mutually agreeing to part ways with NYCFC following the 2019 season.

But the longtime assistant of Pep Guardiola at Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City opted for the Rio de Janeiro giants, who have won 36 league titles and a pair of Copa Libertadores crowns.

Torrent took over for Patrick Vieira at NYCFC midway through the 2018 season and last year guided the Cityzens to a club-record 64 points and a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Spaniard went 26-13-14 during his time in New York, but failed to lead the Cityzens past the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
