Charlotte MLS president Tom Glick has told the Sports Business Journal the expansion team will reveal its name next month, though he declined to specify a timeline beyond that.

“This is a very important moment in the formation of our new club for the city and for the region,” Glick told SBJ in a post published on Friday. “We’ve been monitoring and thinking about when the right time to introduce it would be. What’s clear to us right now is not only is there a hunger for the return of sport and watching sport, there’s a hunger and anticipation for this moment for this new club.”

Charlotte will join Austin FC in becoming the 27th and 28th teams to compete in MLS beginning next season. The league will then welcome Sacramento and St. Louis in 2022, bringing MLS to 30 clubs.
