The talk of global soccer social media Wednesday was D.C. United star Wayne Rooney's wife Coleen posting a letter explaining how she posted false stories on her Instagram account to attempt to find a source leaking them to tabloids. Rooney ended the letter in dramatic fashion, accusing her husband's former England teammate Jamie Vardy's wife Rebekah of being the leak.
The letter produced a million memes, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC attempted to get in on the action, using Rooney's "This has been a burden in my life for a few years now and finally I have gotten to the bottom of it......" tagline in the social post to try and tweak their nearest Cascadia neighbors.
But the Seattle Sounders came roaring back, turning the tables on the Whitecaps' reference of being at the bottom.
No word on whether the teams have reached a stalemate in this battle or if new attempts to dunk on each other will be forthcoming.
