Saucedo: Why can't RSL be MLS Cup champions this year?

Real Salt Lake turned some heads with their performance to grab a 3-0 win over Toronto FC on Saturday.

Sure, RSL tend to be a solid side at home and TFC have been struggling of late. But a swarming game plan, coupled with some real bangers for goals scored, gave them the points and plaudits on the day.

It's something that midfielder Sebastian "Bofo" Saucedo, who scored one of those key goals, followed by a "Titanic"-like hug with head coach Mike Petke in celebration, says leaves his side underrated, even if he admits his they aren't the finished product at this point in the season.

"You guys [have] seen it: We still get caught in transition, letting other teams get to our defense really quick, even though [Toronto] had a man down, and that's something we need to approach for the following games, whether we're up a man or we're 11-v-11, we need to stay strong, keep the ball," the 22-year-old Homegrown product told reporters on Saturday after the win.

But Saucedo believes in RSL, and thinks the sky is the limit.

"I think you guys saw it. There was a sequence where me, [Damir Kreilach], Albert [Rusnak], the guys, everyone's tuned in, everyone's knocking from one side to the other side. We're capable of doing that. I don't think those top teams in the league think we're capable of doing that, but you know what? We knocked out LAFC last year, and [Toronto aren't] defending champs but two years ago they were champions and we got a result. So why can't we do it? Why can't we be the Western Conference champions? Why can't we be the MLS Cup champions? We have it in us. At the end of the day it's 11-v-11 out there. Doesn't matter who it is."
