Atlanta United's Barco called into Argentina's U-20 World Cup roster

Atlanta United FC midfielder Ezequiel Barco has been named to Argentina’s roster for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup, it was announced on Friday.

The tournament runs from May 23-June 15.

The 20-year-old will leave to join Fernando Batista’s 21-man squad on Monday after Atlanta take on Sporting Kansas City Sunday (9 pm ET | FS1, MLS LIVE on DAZN in Canada) at Children’s Mercy Park.

Barco is off to a flying start in his second season in MLS with a team-high three goals, all coming in his last five games. He’s started five of the seven matches he’s appeared in for Frank de Boer.

Barco, who has made eight appearances for Argentina’s U-20 national team, could miss as many as seven Atlanta United matches while in Poland for the World Cup. Argentina play its first match on May 25 against South Africa before meeting Portugal on May 28 and South Korea in the final group stage match on May 31.
