Sporting Kansas City's Gerso Fernandes to undergo surgery for broken wrist

News of yet another injury hit Sporting KC on Wednesday, as the Kansas City Star reported that winger Gerso Fernandes broke his wrist in Saturday's wild 4-4 draw with the New England Revolution

The 28-year-old sustained the injury after he lunged to tap home the rebound after a save by Revs goalkeeper Cody Cropper, who blocked Gerso's effort before the winger went sprawling into the back of the net.

Gerso exited the match in obvious discomfort a few minutes later and will undergo surgery to repair the problem, with the prognosis for his recovery not known until after the procedure.

Sporting have already lost Matt Besler (hamstring), Roger Espinoza (knee), Erik Hurtado (knee), Jimmy Medranda (knee), Jaylin Lindsey (knee) and Rodney Wallace (hip) to injuries in recent weeks, and are also set to be without Gianluca Busio due to the teenager's call-up to the US Under-17 national team for World Cup qualifying.
