Columbus Crew SC and the Chicago Fire squared off to open the 2019 Carolina Challenge Cup on Saturday, playing to a 1-1 draw at MUSC Health Stadium in Charleston, South Carolina.


The midwestern foes, in the middle of preseason preparations ahead of the 2019 MLS regular season, saw the opening goal come courtesy of Chicago rising star Djordje Mihailovic, as he scored with an assured stroke just outside the box in the 16th minute.

Columbus equalized 10 minutes later through 2018 leading scorer Gyasi Zardes on a header.

In the 31st minute, Crew SC midfielder Wil Trapp was sent off for a bad tackle on Diego Campos.
