The New York Red Bulls announced on Sunday the transfer of Homegrown midfielder Tyler Adams to RB Leipzig of the German Bundesliga. Adams will officially join Leipzig when the January transfer window opens; per RBNY policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The move is an expected one. Reports had linked Adams, 19, to RBNY's German sibling club for months and last month he told The Athletic that "at the end of the season, it will be the right time" to try his hand in Europe. A rising US national teamer and key contributor for the 2018 Supporters' Shield winners, Adams departs MLS with two goals and 11 assists in 52 regular-season appearances (49 starts) since making his MLS debut in 2016.

Widely viewed as one of the United States' most promising young talents, Adams rose through the Red Bulls' youth system before cutting his teeth as a professional with RBNYII, their USL side. A tireless, rugged competitor typically tasked with a defensive or box-to-box center mid role, he's also capable of playing out wide or as a fullback.

Owned and operated by the same global network as RBNY and endowed with a similar high-pressing style of play, Leipzig finished sixth in the Bundesliga last season and currently sit in third place in this year's standings, and took part in the Europa League. Former RBNY head coach Jesse Marsch left that post over the summer to join Leipzig's coaching staff.
