A familiar face to longtime viewers of European soccer is reportedly hitting the training field with an MLS side.

That's the word from Kristian Dyer, who reported on Metro on Monday that midfielder Alex Song will be training with the New York Red Bulls this week. The report notes the spell will be strictly for training purposes, and not a trial for Jesse Marsch's team.

Song, 30, is best known for his stint with Arsenal, from 2005-12, and he also played for FC Barcelona, primarily between 2012-14. Most recently featuring in the Russian Premier League for Rubin Kazan, the central midfielder is said to be out of contract and looking to get fit for his next stop.

In addition to playing club soccer in Europe, the Cameroonian played in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups and is a two-time Africa Cup of Nations Best XI selection.
