Patrick Vieira "really pleased" with NYCFC job, not currently eyeing Europe

Patrick Vieira - New York City FC - June 24, 2017

New York City FC head coach Patrick Vieira has been linked to a couple of European jobs since taking the reins at Yankee Stadium ahead of the 2016 season, but the France and Arsenal legend seems content to stay stateside for the time being.

“No, the ambition for me is to be in a club where I can do what I really want, and in a club where I have full support of people, belief in what I can bring to the football club,” Vieira told Press Association Sport when asked whether he’d like to return to Europe to coach.

“I am looking for happiness in what I am doing. At the moment I am really pleased with the project we have here in the City Group in New York and I will [continue to] enjoy it.”

Vieira also praised MLS’s growth, saying the league is being driven forward by experienced internationals like NYCFC’s David Villa and promising youngsters like City’s Jack Harrison and Yangel Herrera.

“I think the game in the MLS is completely different from 10 years ago,” he said. “When you look at the quality of the international players coming to the country, of course that raises the level of the game.

“When you look at the last five years, the young players who come in… and I strongly believe there will be young players who will come from all around Europe because the quality of the MLS is good and really interesting.”
