Did Toronto FC get Drizzy's blessing at Toronto Raptors' Drake Night?

Drake - at Raptors game

Most of us know that Torontoā€™s most famous musical son ā€“ Drake ā€“ is a fixture on the sports scene, shall we say, especially when it comes to his hometown teams, and seemingly any playoffs anywhere.

So itā€™s no surprise that the TFC guys might have been looking for a little Drizzy magic this past Wednesday when they attended Drake Night at the home of the Raptors. (Yep, thatā€™s the night Drake made a few Twitter waves with this excellent sweatshirt featuring NBA reporter Doris Burke.)

Check out this video of the guys at the game, in which Justin Morrow clearly expresses a desire to meet the bearded, (probably) soft-skinned, smooth-crooning legend.

Hereā€™s the thing, though ā€“ the Six God already did meet one of TFCā€™s most important figures a while back, Sebastian Giovinco. We asked the Atomic Ant for how that felt about that meeting, during this past Februaryā€™s NBA All-Star festivities.

ā€œThere are a lot of Drake fans, and Iā€™m one of them, definitely,ā€ he said through a translator. ā€œHeā€™s the symbol of Toronto, and itā€™s great that because of him the cityā€™s getting more recognized around the world.ā€

Giovinco also added that he was still bumping Drake in the car, including a personal favorite, ā€œLegendā€ ā€“ though ā€œOne Danceā€ stayed on rotation all summer. (The rest of the time, he says, he likes to spin Italian music.)

And hereā€™s the photographic evidence, again, as a reminder that this happened.

Giovincoā€™s gonna do just fine, pop-culture endorsement or not, as Toronto heads into the first leg of the Eastern Conference Championship. But will a little magic from contact with Champagne Papi linger? Or, will Drake acknowledge a successful hometown team he can definitely bandwagon?

Perhaps we'll find out this week. Toronto visit the Montreal Impact this Tues., Nov. 22 at 8 pm ET; the game's on ESPN and TSN.
